WX1 Extension

Postby neecan on Wed Oct 12, 2005 10:06 am

Hi,

I currently have WX1 worker visa and is expiring in november 2005, I got it for 6 months. Now I want to extend it for another 6 months. Is it possible to extend the present WX1 status or I have to change it to work permit? Also, I dont have a SIN number now. I heard that for WX1, they may not give SIN. Is it true? I am not getting paid here. I am being paid by my Indian Company and I am in contract here now. So if I have to apply for an extension, should I need to change my visa status to work permit and get paid here? Please clarify? It will be helpful if anyone can respond at the earliest.
Thanks in advance.

You may apply for an extension of your business visitor (WX-1) visa from within Canada. Such an application is processed at the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta, and would take 45-60 days on average.

A business visitor is not eligible for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and may not be salaried in Canada. To be eligible for a SIN, you would be required to obtain a formal work permit. The details of your qualifications and of the Canadian position would determine your eligibility and the requirements.
