WX1-186(a) visa details

Postby Narendran on Mon Oct 31, 2005 8:42 pm

Hello,

As I had to travel to canada for a 2 month technical discussion assignment, my company had obtained a WX1-186(a) business visa for a year.

On my arrival the immigration officer had stamped the visa with an expiration date upto mid Apr. After few weeks of initial discussions with the client, the scope of the engagement has increased to 5 months from 2 months, while the nature of the work remains the same.

Questions:

1) As I have a expiration for this entry upto April, could I continue my 5 month assignment though my initial invite letter was for 2 month period during visa requisition.

2) Is there a recommended period of stay for WX1-186(a) visa ?

Your time and help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can remain in Canada on your present assignment until the mid-April date that the immigration official stamped in your passport. As a general rule, a WX-1 visa would be issued with a maximum duration of 6 months unless limited to a shorter duration by the immigration official upon arrival in Canada.
