WP renewal at POE

Postby bazzz on Mon Oct 29, 2007 3:02 pm

Hi,

I am UK citizen currently working in Vancouver on a work permit. My permit is due to expire on Jan 6th 2008. We will be out of Canada attending my brother's wedding from 1st-9th January 2008.

I have renewed my LMO and now wish to renew my work permit. Speaking to CIC they said I should be able to do this at a port of entry. I thought it would be too risky to go through Vegreville as there seem to be delays at the moment and we would lose our implied status if we left Canada before getting my new work permit. My question is at what stage before my current WP expires should I apply for a new one, at a POE after leaving Canada? CIC were unable to help me with this, stating that an Immigration Officer may refuse to issue a new WP if the current one is still valid.

Any suggestions?

Hi Baz,

Firstly let me apologise that my post is'nt a response to your question, I am wondering how you got your permit and what type of work you do, I and my parents have friends on Vancouver Island and they say we can enter and apply for a work permit, is this true or did you have to apply when you were in the UK, also with the permit how long before you can apply for permanent residency

Sorry for the 20 questions but I'm not sure of my current options and would do anything to get back out there ASAP

Cheers
David
