Working Holiday Visa and waiting for PR

Postby Ali24 on Tue Sep 04, 2007 11:34 am

Hi

I am wondering if someone can answer my question. I am living with my boyfriend in Canada and we are waiting the year until we are classed as common law so I can apply for P.R.

I have had my one year Working Holiday Visa extended to two years. My question is: Once we are common law and I begin my 2nd year can I work on the Working Holiday Visa while I am waiting for my PR to be processed? I haven't found anything that says I can or can't and this way I can stay in Canada with my boyfriend. Has anyone else done this?

What other options are there available?

I look forward to a reply from anyone who knows some info

Working Holiday and PR

Postby ckerluke on Wed Sep 12, 2007 6:40 pm

Hi Ali24,

My g/f and my situation may be able to help and hopefully you can provide some insight as well. We have been living with each other for over a yr and 1/2 and are applying for a common-law visa. My common-law partner is currently working here under a working holiday visa while we wait for our application to be processed - so you should be able to do the same.

Her working holiday visa however is set to expire before we get approval from our common-law visa. She doesn't want to lose her job in the meantime during such a gap. I have never heard of someone getting an extension to their working holiday visa - How were you able to do this? Any insight would be apprecaited!!!!

Thanks.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. That is great to know. My working holiday visa isn't going to be extended as such. I have applied for what they call a SWAP visa. It is an agreement between NZ and CANADA. It has the same conditions as the working visa. It is designed for people who want to stay on in Canada for another year or return to Canada after thier first time here. There are only 250 a year. I am not certain what the conditions are for other countries. I hope that can help.

How is your PR process going? I have heard that it can take sometime, which I imagine is normal as it is a big step.
