Working freelance in Canada

Postby johanna on Fri Jan 19, 2007 7:53 am

Mt boyfriend is currently part of the British Army serving in Canada and I plan to join him for the last 10 months of his tour out there.

He has accomodation provided and so I will live with him. However I would like to continue my career as a freelance producer for the film and photograhy industry's. I already have one job offer for a few months of this period but need to be able to pick up more work once I am out there. I have heard there is an open working visa available. Would I qualify for this and if not would I be covered on a normal temporary working visa. Could anybody give me any idea how long this would take to process. I have a letter offering me the initial period of freelance work.

Is it possible to work freelance in Canada but continue to invoice through my UK business as i am only working for short periods of time?

I am assuming that you are referring to the program for spouses of highly skilled workers. The information that you have provided does not suggest that you are eligible for such an open work permit. As such, you would require Service Canada Confirmation for each position that you pursue. If the employer is based in Canada, this applies even if you are invoicing through a foreign company.

Thank you so much for your help. Can you tell me how I go about getting a Service Canada Confirmation.

Thanks
