WORKER VISA and WORK PERMIT

Postby maia2011 on Sun Jan 16, 2011 9:17 pm

Hi!

I just have a question regarding the need to renew for a Canada Work visa prior to leaving Canada for a vacation.

I came here to Canada to work as a nurse in MB and received my Canada Visa in the Philippines March 2009 and left for Canada, May 2009 were I was issued a Work Permit valid for a year. The year passed and February 2010, I received my new LMO which was good for 3 years hence, I reapplied for a new work permit which will expire in 2012 since my passport will expire by then as well. The only thing is, I did not renew my multiple entry Canada Worker Visa since it didn't seem to matter because my work permit was valid and I was able to cross the US border back and forth despite just handing out to Canadian border officials my work permit. I just have a question because I might have a wrong information regarding the need of getting the work visa prior to leaving Canada and back to the Philippines.

Is there really a need to renew the Canada Visa despite that the work permit is good for 3 years if I'm going to other countries than the US, for example, Philippines?

I would really appreciate a prompt response regarding this matter.

Thank you.

You do not appear to need a new work permit, but if your entry visa is expired then obtaining a new one would be technically required for eligibility to return to a Canadian port of entry to seek re-admission.
