Work Visa for the spouse of Permanent Resident

Postby Deep on Thu Mar 09, 2006 5:22 pm

Hi

I am a permanent Resident of canada (Indian Citizen), married to a Permanent Resident of Australia. As per the information for work visa on CIC site,

"Spouses and common-law partners of skilled foreign workers, spouses and common-law partners of certain foreign students, spouses and common-law partners of a person doing post-graduation employment for certain foreign students and post-doctoral fellows do not need a confirmation from HRSDC."

I am trying to understand the term "skilled foreing workers" here. I am a PR of canada and working as a software engineer. Am I a "skilled foreing worker"? In other words, will my spouse need confirmation from HRSDC? Or just a job offer is enough to apply for work visa?

Thanks and Regards,

Deep

As a Canadian, you would not be considered a foreign worker. The provisions that you refer to are applicable to holders of certain temporary work permits in Canada.

As a first step, your would generally need to have a job offer from a Canadian employer. You may wish to refer to the Canada work visa FAQ for more informationon the steps that follow.
