Hello: Our firm (a US company)may receive a contract to do some engineering consulting work in Ontario. Our question is: is a work visa necessary and if so what is the procedure, what forms, etc. We would have 2 or 3 employees travel to Ontario a couple times a month for one or two days. Does each employee need a work permit and does the company need to register in any way? The Canadian Immigration website is not real clear for this situation. Thanks in advance for your help.
Yes, the existence of a Canadian client necessitates a work permit for each employee in this case, even though your employees may remain on your company's payroll. It is possible such a work permit would be viable under NAFTA; if not, then a Labour Market Opinion may be a requirement prior to eligibility for the work permit.
The necessity of other registrations, such as business numbers, payroll numbers, or taxation accounts should be determined in consultation with a financial expert.
