Work Permit Renewal - Serious Delays

Postby Narapuram on Fri Jun 03, 2011 11:24 am

Hi,

My employer had filed for my work permit extension last August and that came through sometime in January. Then they asked me to send my passports so that they can get them stamped at the NY Consulate. My passports were sent to the consulate sometime around February of this year and the consulate has been sitting on the passports without any updates till now.

I have international travel planned in the third week of June. My question is, say if I inform the consulate to cancel my stamping here, how long will it take for them to send my passports back?

This trip is very important (lots of dependencies and as such cannot postpone) and I am thinking I will get the stamping done in my home country, India, personally.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance,
RN

There is no faxed time frame in which the visa office will generally return a passport in this scenario. A 2-3 week delay is a reasonable expectation however.
