Work Permit renewal refused. Can I stay on and apply for PR?

Postby pp1234 on Sat Jan 16, 2010 5:08 pm

Hi,

I'm from India. I have been working for the last 15 months on a Post graduate work permit. I tried to extend the PG work permit, and was refused, saying that I could not apply through the PG programme and had to reapply normally with an LMO and all...
Now, it mentions, that I have 90 days to apply to reinstate my status. Can I apply for a PR in the mean time? Or should I leave the country and apply from the outside?

Thanks.

You may certainly submit a PR application in such time, but it is impossible for such a case to be concluded within the 90 days prescribed for the restoration of status application. If you intend to apply for PR while you are in Canada, it would make more sense to focus first on securing work permit status and to then pursue the PR application.
