work permit renewal

Postby montreal_boy on Tue Jan 23, 2007 12:41 am

Hi there,

Just need a small clarification. I obtained my initial work permit thru the post graduation work program for 1 year (expires in March). I just heard from some people that such a work permit cannot be extended. Just wanted to verfiy from you if this is the case? Further, I donot need a HRDC clearance as I fall in IT software worker category.

Thanks for your time.

Post-graduation work permits are not eligible for extension, but a new work permit can always be sought if eligible. A maximum duration of two years is possible for such visas if your study and work were not in the Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver areas (your username suggests that this is not the case).

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. Could you shed some light on the eligibility criterions for the new work permit.
Also as I am in Quebec and in IT sector i understand that I will not need a HRDC clearance but may require a CAQ. Is this true.

Thanks again for your time.

Please review the various categories of Canadian work permits on our web site.

IT workers destined to positions in the province of Quebec are required to obtain a CAQ. The exemption from the requirement of a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) is dependent on the qualifications of the applicant and the details of the position offered.
