Work Permit processing time.

Postby csmams on Thu Jul 21, 2011 7:14 pm

My employer outsource my workpermit extension and visa to a law firm.
They submitted my file by June 14 to the consulate in NewYork. I do have also an LMO approved since last year they changed the IT category exemption.

How long should it take to get the VISA for me and my dependents given that I have mandatory wait period of 10 days as being from Egypt.

The law firm is saying the background inspection is still on going as per the embassy feedback to them on July 19. I expect they are not credible , can someone inform me about the process and how long it should take approximately?

The lawyer is trying to say immigration laws changed and everything has a very strict laws now, and etc... Though the website is saying 1 month average processing time, and 10 days mandatory wait period..... someone please with experience let me know. I issued my last year work visa in 1 month from cairo consulate as per the processing time information on the website. Do you think NY embassy changed the timing and didn't update the web.... or this lawyer is inaccurate and trying to playaround with me and my employer

Thanks ...

Give them 2 weeks allowance, maybe the company has issues which is slowing the process of your permit. Some took months cause there were reports the accountant failed to submit on time. I believe when an officer is on your case and something is missing, they put "Pending" sign on your application and then your back at the bottom of the pile. It depends on the company though, why don't you try asking an office mate.
