Work Permit - NAFTA Agreement for USA Citizen

Postby momto2_007 on Tue May 01, 2007 10:49 am

Hi all:

OK - This is going to be long - but here is a brief history. My husband and I have been in the USA since 1994. We are now US citizens. We have 2 kids, and are immigrating to Canada. Our intention to do so is on a work permit. I have a job offer from a small construction company, and I have a degree in Architecture from Mumbai, India. Here are my questions:

(1) Based on my offer letter, and the NAFTA agreement, is it safe to assume that I can fill out the form IMM1295 and submit it at the border alongwith the following documents:
WORK PERMIT APPLICATION AND INSTRUCTIONS

Documents required for applications submitted in Detroit:

Letters of reference from current and/or previous employers describing your occupation, duties, length of employment, and salary.
Education certificates,
Two passport-size photographs
A copy of passport.
A written job offer from your prospective employer in Canada describing your occupation, duties and length of employment.

You may be required to have your job offer validated by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC). Your prospective employer should contact the HRSDC concerning this requirement if he/she has not already done so. Please include the system file number from HRSDC in your application.: This will not be required in my case.
I will be including 2 children and my husband in my application as dependants. My husband will continue his USA based job and commute back and forth every week.

What else??

Have we overlooked anything.? We are leaving this Friday, May 4th. So please give me all feedback asap - I appreciate it!!!

Thanks to you all!
