Work Permit/NAFTA

Postby newhere on Wed Oct 06, 2010 11:44 pm

Good Day,

I recently came here (Canada) to visit a friend who lives and works in Canada.....I love it!

I sent my resume out and got a response to come in for an interview.
I am an Early Childhood Educator with an Associates Degree and credentials to be a Level 2 Director in a Childcare Program. I have the qualifactions and documentations of my education and skills. I have a permanant place to live but would like to establish employment and live here in Canada the correct way.

My question is what is the proper way for me to obtain a work permit? How do I know if this position is considered needed by NAFTA? Also, would it be best for me to receive a visitor visa and does this allow me to work during the work permit process?

How do I receive a labor market opinion and is this necassary to obtain a work permit?

Help Please?!?

From the information supplied, the occupation you are pursuing does not appear to fall under the provisions of NAFTA. As such, you will require a Labour Market Opinion prior to seeking a work permit; evidence of a shortage of Canadians for the position would be needed for such. You can also expect that a medical examination will be needed as part of the work permit application.

Obtaining a visitor visa would not permit for any employment in Canada and would not change the processing requirements for the work permit.
