Work Permit Medical Exam

Hello!

First of all, I want to congratulate you for this GREAT website. Having information about the permits processing is great (official info is not very complete) and found EVERYTHING I looked for with a few clicks, except for the question I made below :)

I'm from Argentina and some months ago I received a job offer to work in Canada and I applied to a Temporary Work Permit. I successfully dropped all the forms and they notified me I got to do the medical exam. I checked the list of designated practitionners and I'll call tomorrow to arrange a date.

What worries me, and it's not my intention to generate any kind of debate, is the urine sample/interview since I consumed cannabis some weeks ago and think it's most likely to get positive on the test if they check for cannabinoids. In Argentina (and I think most countries around the world), marihuana is NOT LEGAL to carry or produce, but there's no law that prohibits the consumption.

The question itself is: in the questionaire I seen on Internet, it asks the following question: 13. Have you ever been ADDICTED to alcohol or a drug, or taken drugs illegaly?

I never been addicted to any drugs (the only drug I EVER consumed is marihuana), and I don't consume alcohol at all. What should be the answer to that question in my case? I seen that answering YES may require psychological tests to be performed, and of course I want to avoid that, but I think it's better to do a psychological test than being refused because cannabinoids were found and I answered NO.

Admin, I know this is a sensitive subject and I'm not sure if it's appropiate for a public forum like this so feel free to delete this post if you consider it necessary.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The only appropriate answer to any question in the immigration process is the truth. If using marijuana is illegal in your circumstances, it sounds like the appropriate answer is "yes" to this question. I would not expect that psychological tests will be requested as a result, and it is otherwise difficult to estimate the impact of this on your case.
