Work permit for US citizen

Postby Bynzango on Mon Jul 04, 2011 10:57 am

Greetings,
I am a US citizen, I have been working in IT, since 1995, been with my company for the past 4 years and there is a chance that I will be going to Canada to do some work with our customers there. I am currently on a 2 year assignment in France, and although I never graduated from college, that did not pose a problem for me here to get my work visa since I was skilled enough and my company sent me here. I was wondering if I would have any issues with a work visa for Canada. My assignment would consist of flying there every week and back to the US.

Thanks

The absence of a post-secondary diploma may preclude a LMO exemption under NAFTA, but does not necessarily preclude a work permit entirely. If the employer can otherwise satisfy the government that there is no negative labour market impact as a result of your employment, and you meet the requirements of that Confirmed position, a work permit can be granted.
