Work permit for spouse

Postby bisjitroy on Fri Oct 23, 2009 2:56 am

Hi David,

I am working now as postdoctoral reseacher in USA and got canadian work permit from US. My wife (and daughter 1 year old) wants to apply for open work permit as spouse of foreign worker. Is it the same application form she will use for her visa? If it is so, who will be the principal applicant (self) there? If she put her name in the 'Self' column, how she fill the following questions (My occupation in Canada will be ....,I am expected to start my employment on.....etc.). Can you please clarify my doubt on this. Thank a lot in advance.

With best regards

It is the same form and the spouse in such a case is the principal applicant.

Hi David,
Thank you so much. She does not have a job there. So, probably she can not apply for work permit. What other visa she can apply so that she can stay with me and can do work if she find one?

With best regards

Provisions allow for open work permits for spouses of certain foreign workers, in which case an advance job offer is not a requirement. Otherwise a temporary resident visa (visitor) or a study permit are options.
