Work Permit Extension [ PG Work permit to LMO based one.]

Hello All,

I'm currently on a post-graduate work permit and want to know on what needs to be done for renewal of the same. I did schooling in University in Ontario. The international student center of the University did mention that Immigration has eased the rules to file for a work permit extension with HRSDC. This states that the employer DOES NOT need to provide proof of recruitment efforts for the position being offered to the Post-Grad.

Does anyone now more about this? How easy is it made for the employers? Also what is a Post-Grad's right to extend his work permit if he has applied for his PR but the PR has not come through yet...

In the cases of employers seeking new work permits to replace those expiring in the post-graduate program, Service Canada does presently have a policy to accept cases without evidence of recruitment and may issue Confirmations for up to 2 years. The impact on the local labour market will still be a part of the consideration of such a case.

You can apply for permanent resident status and temporary status at the same time (dual intent). Doing so will not harm your application for permanent resident status. However, your application for temporary status may be affected because an impression will have been created that you do not intend to leave Canada upon the expiration of your temporary status.
