I am workign as a software engineer in Toronto on Work permit. My workpermit will be expiring in February 2011. I am planing to apply for extension.
Is LMO is Mandatory to apply for workpermit extension?
Is medical check required for workpermit extension?

Other than in BC and Quebec at present, an LMO will be a necessity for extension of your current work permit. The IT worker program currently remains in force in those two provinces otherwise. The requirement for a medical examination will depend on whether or not you had previously undergone such, the total duration of the stay in Canada sought, and the countries of your residence in the 12 months prior to the application.
