Work permit extension

Postby babuma on Mon Feb 06, 2006 3:30 pm

Hi David,
I am Information technology worker in canada(got my work permit under Facilitated Processing for Information Technology Workers in May 2005 valid up May 2006).
I want to extend my Workpermit but I only have my passport valid upto April 2007.
1)Can I apply for workpermit extention for another year ie upto May 2007 or do I need to apply upto April 2007 ?What are the documents that I need to provide for workpermit extension?
2)My wife came here as my Dependent on visitor Visa and later on applied for workpermit under Spouses of highly skilled temporary foreign workers.
Do i need to apply her extension seperately or can I do it in one application as she is my dependent.
For my wife Do i need to apply for Extension of temperory status as visitior or renewal of work permit or both ?Even though she got open workpermit she never worked on it as she is pregnant.
3)Is medical examination required for my wife,we both are living in canada sinde May 2005.(She is also Software professional).

How long is the current processing time for workpermit extention? When I checked on the cic website it shows 27 days.

Thank You for your help.
Can I donate any money to this website or the person maintaing this site thru paypal ? This site is of great help so it is good if a paypal button is provided so that people can donate for maintaining this website or for anwsering the questions.

Thanks
Ravi

An extension will be granted for no longer than the validity of your passport. An additional extension would be required once the passport is renewed. An extension for your spouse can be processed in the same application(s).

Assuming that your present visa was granted for more than 6 months, it would not appear that medicals would e required.

27 days is a reasonable estimate at present, although these delays can fluctuate considerably.

We do not have any mechanism for donation at the present time. If you find the site valuable, please feel free to recommend it to others or to link to it from your own sites or blogs.

extension of workpermit/temperory resident permit

Postby babuma on Thu Mar 02, 2006 12:51 pm

Hi David,
When we apply for extension of workpermit inland do we need to apply for extension of Temperory resident permit too ?
On IMM1249E form it says 2 recent photo graphs has to be sent if we are applying for extension of temperory resident permit.

If I dont have to apply for extension of Temperory resident permit I assume I dont need to sent 2 photo graphs along with application.
please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you so much,
Ravi

A Temporary Resident Permit is different from a Temporary Resident Visa. It is a document which is sought when an individual is otherwise inadmissible to Canada as a temporary resident.

If you were originally admitted to Canada on the basis of a TRP, then you would need to request extension of this document along with any inland extension application. If not, then this is not relevant to you.
