Postby sai_murthy on Fri Mar 11, 2011 6:45 pm

Hi

My work permit expires on April-04-2011. My current employer is in process of applying for extension, not yet applied. Within what date we have to apply for extension. And can I stay in canada till I recive my new work permit. Also, will I receive any communication to leave canada, if my extension for Work Permit is not approved.

Regards

The government suggests applying for extension 30 days prior to the date of expiration of the work permit. However, if the extension is submitted by the date of expiration that remains acceptable.

Inland extensions are currently taking up to approximately 90 days to process (assuming it is not referred to a local CIC office). However, once the extension is filed, you would typically be allowed to remain within Canada and continue to work in the same position until the decision on the extension is rendered. If not approved, then you will receive a written communication requesting your departure.
