Work Permit + Company Owner - possible?

Postby calgaryo on Mon Oct 15, 2007 11:06 pm

Hello:

Thanks all for you efforts.

I'm currently working in Canada under a Temporary Work Permit program. My Job doesn't require Service Canada Approval (IT).

I'm thinking of starting my own company (on the side). It would be a sole proprietorship company (only myself as the owner).

All invoices going to clients will be issued through the company (not through myself).

1- Would I then be jeopardizing my Work Permit status, as I would be owning (and implicitly working) for another company?

2- Would it make a difference if the company is an incorporated entity (myself as one of the partners)?

Please understand that I'm not trying to do anything illegal, I'm only looking towards providing a better life for my family.

Appreciating all feedback.

Regardless of whether you intend to work for new clients in the context of a sole proprietorship or incorporation, so long as this work is being conducted in Canada, new work permits would be required.
