I am stuck in an unusual situation. I came on a WX-1 for 2 months. Then I found a company which had an urgent requirement for a senior Software person. They got me a work permit but then this company closed down within a month of me getting the work permit. Now this work permit is attached to the company that closed down.

I tried looking for other jobs but most companies are reluctant to go through the process of sponsoring a work permit in senior positions in the software industry.

My work permit and visa is valid till Nov 2007.

What are my options now?

So far I did not apply for PR as I never knew for how long I am going to stay here and some one told me if u go return to your home country before the PR comes, then ur PR file gets transfered to ur home country and there the queue is 5 yrs long. I dont want to wait that long.

You are allowed to remain in Canada until the expiration of your present permit. In order to take a new position, you must obtain a job offer and must seek a new work permit or change-of-terms to take that offer.
