Work permit and health care.

My girlfriend and I are considering moving to Vancouver at some point. I was wondering if a Canada work permit would give us access to any Canadian health care? Or would we be responsible for that on our own?

Thanks.

not sure about BC but in Manitoba if you have a work permit that is valid for one year or more you can get the same health care as Canadians through the provincial health system (eg Manitoba health here)

I am pretty sure it is similar for BC

Here we got a form from the local municipal office and filled it out and sent it off, a few weeks later our health card arrived. Doesnt cover things like dental or ambulance though but you can go to the doc for free.
