Work permit and debt in the home country

Postby seabee2 on Fri Apr 27, 2007 6:57 pm

Hi. I have a question for you all. I have accepted a job offer from Canada. They sent me confirmation letter from Canadian goverment and now I need to apply for a work visa for myself and my spouse.

I am worried about my education loans in my home country. This debt is to my home goverment. I will start paying once I start my job, but I didn't start the process yet. Technically I look like a goverment worker in my home country. Does it matter for the work visa? Do they check with the home goverment? Thanks.

A personal debt would not typically be grounds for refusal of a work permit application.
