Work in Canada Temporary - Business Visitor?

Postby Huissie75 on Sat May 15, 2010 11:08 am

Hi,

I am currently traveling between Europe and Canada about one week per month. My company (HQ in the US) does have a lot of business with some of the big insurance companies in Canada. Rather than traveling back and forth all the time, I would much rather stay in Canada for f.e. 1 year.

Is it possible to f.e. use our clients to get a work-permit for 1 year? Any other options?

background info: IT consultant and my work mainly is implementing, updating, troubleshooting our software. So normally we get into Canada as a business visitor (and approved multi times for the full 6 months after speaking to imigration officer).

Any help is appreciated!

Rgds,
H.

Yes, a one year work permit would often be viable in the situation you describe, and this could allow you to reside in Canada for that full duration. More details on the nature of the relationship between your employer and the Canadian company, and the nature of the work being done in Canada, would be needed to accurately evaluate this however.
