Where should i apply for the work permit?

Postby samskhan on Wed Oct 20, 2010 10:21 am

I am an Indian Citizen married to a Canadian permanent resident having three children born outside Canada. During my last visit to Toronto where my wife and three children reside currently i found a job with a multi national company similar to my current working profile.

The LMO was requested and am told there is high chance of it being positive. They would then make the Job offer.

I currently reside in the UAE - Abu Dhabi and once i have the documents could apply for the work permit in the Canadian Embassay of Abu Dhabi.

Alternatively due to shortage of time can i apply at the Canadian counsulate in Buffalo? I have a Multiple entry TRV to Canada and also a Multiple Entry Visa to the US.

I feel Abu Dhabi may take long processing time and i may lose the oportunity offered to me.

What are the factors that govern quick desicions.

Since my wife is a permanent resident she intends to sponsor us for Permanent resideny to Canada. Can this be taken against me for the Job?

I would appreciate if you could clarify my queries.

Applicants with valid immigration status in Canada or the USA are eligible to process a work permit application at a visa office in the USA. On average a case processed in the USA would conclude more quickly than one in Abu Dhabi. However, this is no guarantee that this will necessarily be faster in your specific case. At any given visa office, supply of a clear and complete case is the most important factor in quick processing.

You can seek permanent resident status and temporary status at the same time (dual intent). Doing so will not harm your application for permanent resident status. However, your application for temporary status can be affected by a permanent resident application if the official is not satisfied that you are a bona-fide temporary resident.
