Hi
I'm planning a Canadian tour for the band I play in this June, and I've been doing research on whether or not we need temporary work permits - and the thing I keep coming up against again and again is that we don't need a work permit as long as we're not playing in a 'bar or restaurant type venue'. Which is great, but has left me wondering what the exact definition of a bar/restaurant type venue is?
Obviously I know what a restaurant is, but what about a small cafe/coffee shop with a proper stage and PA system, who regularly put on bands?
And obviously I know what a bar is, but most dedicated music venues do have a bar selling alcoholic drinks, but I would definitely class primarily as a venue rather than a dedicated bar.
Is it just down to whether a venue's primary purpose is as a live music venue or as a bar, or... something else?
Any help would be massively appreciated! I don't want to risk us not being allowed into the country, but we also don't have the money to waste on unnecessary work permit applications!
Thanks in advance!
