US green card holder employment in canada

Postby GGK on Wed Oct 12, 2005 8:55 pm

Hello i am a us green card holder who wants to work in canada for about 3 yrs.
There is an excellent job that i;ve found with a university that will allow me to work there and finish my degree (provided i'm selected for the job ofcourse)
1) What permits would i need to work in canada.
2) i dont permanently plan to emigrate to canada so what happens to my social security
Does canada allow US greencard and citizens to put money in US social security while working in canada

Thanks

If the work described is either on-campus, or is a component of the completion of a degree program (i.e., Master's research), then you would typically be allowed to engage in such without the need for a work permit. If not, more details of the position being offered and of your qualifications would be required to determine what would be required to be eligible for a work permit.

Your second question would be better directed to an accountant. No doubt you would be allowed to put the money in the US if you wish; I imagine the real question is whether or not you are still liable for personal income tax on such funds.
