US Citizen with Job offer

Postby fxconnect on Wed Oct 13, 2010 2:33 am

Hi i am a US citizen and have worked as a restaurant manager for 4 years out of past 5 years running and managing full restaurant business in Pakistan. I recently moved back to US to find a job but alas the job conditions are not great. I am sure if I look hard enough i would find a job but I have my ex-wife and children living in Canada and was recently offered a job by a small ethnic (pakistani) cuisine restaurant in Toronto, so I would like to work there and live close to my children. Given NAFTA agreement between US Canada, what do I need to get a work permit at POE (as i understand i would have to apply there, unless I am wrong). Documents, offer letter etc...and also how hard would it to get that?

The position you have been offered is not clear, but would likely not fall under the provisions of NAFTA. If correct, then a Labour Market Opinion should be obtained prior to seeking the work permit.

In the NAFTA list there is a category "Restauran Manger" "hotel Manager" does it not fall under that or is that only for large hotels?

Hotel manager is eligible. Restaurant manager is not.
