US citizen willing to relocate to CANADA....

Postby Dipon on Sat Nov 19, 2005 8:08 pm

Hi David,

I'm a US Citizen who's thinking about relocating to Canada for last couple of months. After doing a good research I've found out this & diycanadaimmigration.com to be the best place for in depth information about immigrating to Canada... thank you David! So after gathering all the information I can see that for a Regular US Citizen, there are roughly 3 ways to immigrate to Canada:

1. Skilled Worker Class- where you have to have very good skills as well as a bachelor degree in order to get a permanent residency.

2. Business Class- where you have to have at least $300,000 net worth in order to be eligible.

& last but not least,

3. Family Class- where some relative in Canada can sponsor a person to get a PR.

Now my question is, what if a person doesn't have all these high quality skills and don't have $300,000 in his possession... what can he do to immigrate ?? Oneway can be... Say if I goto Toronto as a US visitor and then see a job agency over there to arrange me a job... in this case I've two questions:

1. Can I get a HRSDC confirmation within Toronto for that job ?... if so how long will it take ?

2. If I have to come to US to get a confirmation for that regular job will I get a confirmation since this is not a high skill job ?

The reason I'm thinking about all these alternative methods is because in other ways you are totally relying upon the mercy of an employer which is very difficult when contact is just over the phone or internet. And you know how many people really get a job through internet when they don't possess a very high quality skill....

So David, please help me out here because I really want to move to beautiful Toronto as soon as possible with all the diversity & culture it has to offer. Although I'm a part-time real estate agent & a mortgage broker, I'm willing to get a skill training in health sector (e.g. lab/radio technologist) if necessary. I will appreciate your answer very much.... Thanks!

If you do not qualify in the Skilled Worker or Business Class programs, and assuming that you do not have a relative eligible to sponsor you, then seeking Arranged Employment in Canada may be the only avenue that is available to you. This can earn as many as 15 additional points in a Skilled Worker application, and can be accomplished in either of two ways:

1. Obtaining Confirmation of a permanent offer of employment from HRSDC;

2. Obtaining a work permit in Canada. Depending on the job offer and your qualifications, this may require HRSDC's involvement as well, unless you are eligible for an exemption such as NAFTA. Confirmation is more difficult for unskilled positions, but is viable if the employer has been otherwise unable to fill the position with a Canadian.
