US citizen does not know where to start

Postby jbond on Tue Dec 26, 2006 10:10 pm

I live and work in the US, however I want to move to Canada to live with my fiancee, get married and get work.

How do I /we do this? Can we just get married, or do we need "permission?" from the Canadian govt? I probably just cant show up at the border, with my U-Haul truck....

We are a little nervous about starting the process, and dont want to get delayed, or blocked from visiting each other during the process. Is that even a concern we need to worry about?

I would like advise on how to get a job without having to leave Canada as I would have no other place to live.

She is a Canadian citizen and works, and owns her own home.

Marriage to a Canadian alone is not sufficient to allow you to work in Canada. A work permit would be required, either on the basis of a job offer from a Canadian employer, or though an open work permit which can be obtained in the context of an inland sponsorship application.
