US citizen currently in Canada wanting work.

I have been currentlying visiting my girlfriend in Alberta for the past couple months and have come to the decision I would like to stay around her longer, I am a US Citizen who just graduated this spring with a B.S. degree in Business Administration Management. I have looked in the actions needed for obtaining a working permit in Canada. Correct me if I am wrong, From what I have learned thus far, I will need a company here in Canada to offer (sponsor) a job position in writing to me and I will need to apply for the working permit back in the States or at the port of entry.

Now my question is since I am still currently in Alberta, can I start sending my resume to companies and setting up interviews telling them I am a US resident, since I am here already? I have been looking in the local papers circling possible job offers. Would it be easier for me to obtain a written job offer from a large corporation or would smaller companies be just as easy?

Thanks much
Danny

There is nothing preventing your from applying for work while in Canada on visitor status. However, in order to start work, you would require a work permit. The process of obtaining such will depend on the case. Please refer to the work permit FAQ for more details.
