I am a UK citizen and I have just moved to Canada as my fiancee is here. We are going to get married soon and apply for my permanent residency, however she just lost her job, so I dont think she is eligible to sponsor me yet. Is there a way for me to get a temporary work permit for the mean time as I am a UK citizen ? I really need some advice on what I should do.

You can start by reviewing availability for youth program visas with organization such as BUNAC or IEC. If these are not available, then a job offer would be a requirement prior to being able to seek a Canadian work permit.

Thank you for your reply. I have looked at these website but i do not qualitfy because of my age. I am 33 and just completed my masters degree. Is there any other way ? Furthermore, I know someone who is willing to help me out and offer me a job, but I would like to know what are the procedures to get an open work permit. The employer knows that I will work with him temporarily until I find something in my field, but I do not want to have to go through the whole process all over again. What do you suggest ?
