I've been trying to obtain information regarding UK citizens and obtaining a temporary work permit. I'm aware of the procedures required. What I'm having trouble getting information on is can I remain in Canada whilst applying for a work permit once I have a job offer and HRSDC confirmation?

Just to explain the situation in more detail, my girlfriend is a Canadian citizen and living there at present, I'm going to stay with her for a few months and in the process look for a job offer so I can apply for a temporary work permit. What I don't want to have to do is be living there with her and then have to return to the UK to sort my work visa out. I know that as a British citizen I am eligible to apply for a permit upon arrival in Canada if i have a job offer and HRSDC confirmation already, but this is not really an option for me as I'm leaving within seven weeks.

So what I would like to know is there a way I can stay in Canada as a temporary resident as long as I don't exceed my allowed stay and still apply for a work permit without having to leave the country to process it all?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

*Edit* Sorry just to add; would it be possible once I have my job offer and LMO to cross the US border and re-enter and apply for my work permit there, if so, do I need to have a valid reason for crossing the border other than to apply for my work permit?

Yes, you can remain in Canada while a LMO is pursued, so long as you do not overstay your original admission, and so long as you do not engage in any employment during such time. Once the LMO is issued, you may return to Canada from the USA and process the work permit application at the port of entry.

I have just arrived to Canada as my gf is living here and I am staying with her. I am a UK citizen and would like to know what the procedures are for me to apply for a temporary work permit. We will be getting married soon and I will then apply for a permanent residence. However, I really would like to know if there is a possibility for me to work temporarily as I am a UK citizen. I read your post and was interested in knowing what you did inorder to apply for a work permit.
