UK -> Canada: Do it need an LMO? Apply at port of entry?

Postby roadtrip on Tue Oct 02, 2007 11:05 am

Hi,

After hours and hours of frustration, trawling through the CIC website and Canadian High Comission website in London, I'm still no closer to knowing exactly how to apply for a work permit.

I'm British, I have a confirmed job offer from a multinational company in Toronto, but no LMO. The job is in IT, I am qualified to masters level, but have no direct experience.

I would greatly appreciate any help with the following questions, as the information on the above websites is ambiguous:

1) As a British citizen, can I apply at port of entry? If so, what do I need? (Job offer, LMO?) [The wesbite doesn't explicitly state that I can]
2)Does my position require an LMO? Is it excluded as it's a 'professional' position?

The company has told me to simply apply for a work permit here in the UK, even without an LMO, based on the fact they have other (non-UK, Carribean) foreign employees on work permit status.

I have conflicting information, as the website suggests I need an LMO, whereas my employer says I don't.

I'm just about ready to give up.

Thanks
roadtrip

The information that you have provided suggests that you will require a Labour Market Opinion prior to eligibility for a work permit. As such, you cannot successfully conclude an application at a port of entry or visa office prior to obtaining such an LMO.
