Travelling while PR application in process?

Postby LS&2SB2 on Thu Aug 18, 2005 8:19 am

Hi David,
I currently hold a HRSDC approved work permit and multiple entry visa
to Canada. Is it true that one cannot travel outside of Canada (Other than America) if thier PR application is in process? or is this only for application that are made inland in Canada. Logically speaking if one have status and entry visa, they should be able to travel in and out of Canada irrespective
of their Permanent Residency application process. Please advice. Any
help is thanked well in advance.
Rgeards.

Canada does not restrict exit of any individual from Canada during a permanent resident application. However, any individual seeking admission to Canada as a visitor, with a visa or not, is subject to assessment as a temporary resident by an immigration official. The risk will always exist that the immigration official will not be satisfied in this regard, and this is somewhat amplified when a permanent resident application is in progress.

Having said that, if you need to leave Canada, it would seem that your chances of re-admission are strong. If you can avoid leaving, this always safer.
