Travel after 1 Year on Temporary Work Visa Programme

Postby mcostig on Fri Jun 03, 2011 3:18 am

David,

Is it legal to visit Canada immediately after my one year open work visa expires?

I wish to remain in Canada after the 90 days allowed after the expiration of my Visa. I see two ways of doing this and I fear neither are strictly legal; Can I go to the American boarder and return to Canada as a visitor? I have an Irish passport. Can I apply to extend my temporary work visa (case 20) to achieve a status allowing me to remain working in Canada for an additional few months (even though I know that no extensions are allowed on my youth visa so it will be rejected eventually)??

I hope the question was not too case specific,
Many thanks,
M

Either of the avenues that you describe are legal. The latter takes advantage of a loophole (i.e., using implied status when you know there is no basis for renewal) and could result in negative consequences in the case of a subsequent return to Canada on a temporary resident basis.
