Transfer of Work Permit from one employer to a new employer

Postby kaushik.jay on Thu Aug 25, 2011 9:42 pm

Hi... This is quite an urgent and important issue to me. I currently have a work permit for an employer and living in Montreal. I got a job already with another employer who is ready to transfer my work permit to their complany's name. The new employer is also in Montreal. I have also gotten my CAQ in about 3 weeks. Now for my work permit,
1. How long is the waiting period. I hope its about a month (thats what I heard before?)

2. Can I go to the border and while re-entering Canada get my new work permit? Will this be faster and is this possible?

Pls respond. Thanks and awaiting your reply.

Just wanted to add, That I do not need LMO/HSRDC approval as I am a IT worker under the NOC category.

The IT Worker Program no longer exists in Quebec. Previously eligible case would presently be subject to the requirement of a LMO, CAQ, and then the work permit. The delay for these can reach 120 days depending on the circumstances of the case including the nationality of the candidate. If you do in fact have the CAQ in hand already, then much of that process is already complete.

Processing the case at a port of entry is viable only for nationals passport-visa exempt countries and US Permanent Residents.
