Terminated employment, work permit still valid

Postby janrareza on Thu Jan 12, 2012 4:00 am

My friend went back to the Philippines to have a vacation for a month. He promised Human Resources he would be back by January 4th but instead his flight is on January 16 and he made excuses which HR didn't accept and informed him they are terminating his contract. His work permit is still valid till June and he has a temporary resident visa. Will he be able to get back to Canada?

On the basis of a valid entry visa, he can re-appear at a Canadian port of entry. At the port of entry, it is the official's responsibility to determine admissibility based on factors including the purpose of entry and the genuineness of his intent as a temporary resident. If admitted, the existing work permit allows him to remain in Canada until its expiration, but does not permit work in any other position.
