Temporary work permit while applying for PR

Dear David,
Thank you for such an informative site.

My PR application as a skilled worker has been in process in Buffalo since October 2005. I recently interviewed for a permanent position in Canada. Don't anticipate problems getting a TWP for myself -- I'm a US citizen and, as a librarian, covered by NAFTA -- but my wife (under Massachusetts law, not recognised by the US government) is a British citizen. She came to the US on a student visa twenty years ago but, once she leaves the US, she might not be able to return.

If we go to Canada now on a temporary visa then are asked for an interview back in the US as part of the PR application, what happens if she's denied re-entry? I've learned from your responses to other questions that there is no provision for interviewing skilled worker applicants in Canada.

Might we be interviewed in the UK? Are there any other alternatives?

Are we crazy to think about leaving the US before the PR visa comes through, under these circumstances?

Thank you,
Marie

Inability to attend a selection interview, if requested, could delay or jeopardize the application. A selection interview would be scheduled at the visa office (or a satellite office in the same jursidiction) to which the case is submitted. In order to be interviewed in the UK, you would have to submit the case to the London High Commission.
