I applied to the temporary work permit at the Canadian Consulate in Buffalo. I mailed my application file on May 21st. On the website it is indicated that the processing times are 1-28 days, however i haven't received the documents. I also sent my passport with the package. I am not a US citizen and my residency here ends on July 5th and I have to leave US before that. My job (post doc at UBC) starts on July 1st.

I was wondering if any of you have any information about the processing times in Buffalo and what I should do now? Because I don't have my passport, I cannot leave US as well.

I sent some e-mail inquiries to the consulate but no response. Can I contact them on the phone?

It looks like on the Canada Visa embassy they have implemented new IT systems which are causing delay in the application processing.

If you have to travel before July 5th, its better you visit the BUffalo Embassy in person and get the information. They should return your passport.

I went in person and applied for work permit on 06/14.They did not even take my pasport becuase of these delays. As far as I can think , it will take atleast a month more to get your work permit. I may be wrong.

Hi ,

I received an e-mail on 07/13 from Canadian Embassy,Buffalo indicating that my work permit is approved and I need to go there with my passport.
Yesterday they gave me the Visa as well as a letter which says that my work permit application is approved. They replied to me exactly in 1 month. However, I submitted the application in person and got the visa stamped also in person. Mine is Intra Company Transfer, so it should have been little quicker.
