Hi, I am going to Canadian embassy in Seattle tomorrow to apply for temporary work permit. I am getting it filed from X company. Once i get the WP, can i work for other company Y or not.

Also will i get temporary work permit for 6 months or can i get it for 1 year also. Though the papers are made for 1 year.

Please suggest.

A work permit is generally specific to employer, location, and position. It allows only for work in those specific designations.
