Temporary Resident Visa or do I need Work Permit?

Postby prakashrv on Thu Jul 22, 2010 1:13 pm

Hi, I am a little confused if I need to apply for Temporary Resident Visa or Temporary work permit, can you please help?

My employer, based in USA, will be selling our software to a company based in Toronto, and I will be leading the implementation activities for the same. I will be travelling Monday - Thursday for this project to Toronto for the next 20-22 weeks. I am an Indian citizen in USA on my EAD (Work Permit). Should I be applying for temporary Resident visa or Work permit in canada for this assignment? Since, I will not be entering Canadian labour market, I believe it will be a Business Visitor category. Can you please confirm asap? I visited the immigration website, but was a little confused on the right type of visa for my situation. Also, I am awaiting my permanent residence approval in USA in the next few months; will this change the type of visa needed for my assignment in Canada?

Thanks all in advance.

The Canadian customer has paid for the software, so the primary source of remuneration is from within Canada. As such, the work permit would be a typical requirement.
