Has anyone else been through this (or going through it)?
I am currently here in Canada on a SWAP/BUNAC Open Work Visa from the UK. I took it so that I could be with my partner. We will have common law status mid December, but this is when the visa runs out.
She is a Canadian permanent resident so can sponsor me (once we have the necessary year under our belt).
What I am wondering is if:
Before my current work Visa expires I can apply to the sponsored application centre in Alberta. Does this give me implied status to stay and work? (as it is submitted before the current Visa expires) then when application is approved in principle (9 months from what I can read online) the new work visa will be granted as I can become a permanent resident in Canada (WooHoo!!! - finally)
Does anyone else have a better idea? Trust me I am open to options! The CIC website is confusing to say the least!
Thank you in advance...
p.s. Marriage is not an option (not gay, she's married already - before you wonder)
