Still awaiting decision regarding work permit

Postby Nihatbhuiyan on Wed Aug 29, 2012 8:32 am

I had my Medical examination six weeks ago. I am still awaiting a decision following this from the High Commisssion regarding the granting of a temporary work permit. The CIC website for the UK states I should hear the final decision regarding the permit 3-4 weeks after the medical examination. I have tried e mailing the High Commsission but the response is very non-specific and states that the file is under final review by a Visa Officer and I will hear in due course. Does anyone have any advice regarding this?

Hi,

Did you get any update?
When did you submit the application and when did you get the request for medicals?

Thanks,
Krish

It is hard to give any more information than the response from the visa office in the presence of limited information. Historically, the 3-4 week estimate provided by the visa office has been accurate. However, backlogs worldwide are fairly high at most centers right now, and this and additional process specific to your case may be delaying the application outcome.

Exactly same position here. Applied to the HC in UK at start of June 2012, did medicals end of July and still awaiting WP. Email sent to HC end of August to check for update but basically told not to bother that application still in process.
However like you said I expected decision within a month of medicals going by the processing time on website.
The delay, poor communication from the HC and risk of losing job in Canada is frustrating, annoying and sad.

@David

Any ideas reasons for worldwide backlog? One would imagine the responsible authorities would have made provisions to cater for this backlog. People's lives are being put on hold.

The increase in backlogs generally started after the April 2011 changes to the Regulations, which imposed stricter requirements for the assessment of foreign worker cases by both Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
