Hi. I am a Canadian citizen and my wife who is not Canadian received her approval in principal in September. She lives with me in Canada and we submitted an inland sponsorship application. We didn't apply for an opened work permit because we were under the impression that the whole sponsorship processing application time would take 9-12 months. Does anyone know how long it takes for the PR to be approved (after the approval in principle)? From what I have read in the posts it may take several years. I have not been able to figure out the wait time on CIC's website. Thank you.
I have been sponored for permant residency by my spouse as well and have received my approval in principle. I am told it could take quite a long while to receive the actual permanent resident visa, but receiving the approval in principle has pretty much given you all you need. Applying for and receiving to work permit is a quick process. You are allowed to apply for your medical coverage as well and it will take effect 90 days after the date of the AIP letter. Once the work permit is received, which gives you temporary resident status for atleast one year, you can apply for your social insurance number. The CIC website only gives the time for the first stage of approval.
I'm curious about how long it took to receive your AIP. The CIC website shows my application as being in process since May 2008. My concern (paranoia) is that a letter was sent, but lost in the mail or something.
How were you notified? Do you know if it was reflected on the CIC site?
