Renewing work permit

Postby Eleanor on Sun Aug 19, 2007 11:27 am

My husband has already had one renewal on his work permit, how many more renewals can he get? We were going to get his permanent resident status but have now decided due to family concerns to move back to the USA but we want to wait until our daughter graduates in June, 2008. His work permit ends on April 19, 2008 and we would like to extend it to July 1, 2008 and were told by our lawyer that he probably wouldn't be extended. I have been reading online that it is possible to extend a work permit for an extra 90 days, how do we go about doing that? He came to Canada under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program and the company he works for are willing to keep him on indefinitely, we are actually transferring to their affiliate in the USA when we leave here. I am Canadian, he is an American citizen. Any help you can give us would be much appreciated.

Thank you
Eleanor

The information provided suggests that extension of a Labour Market Opinion would be required for eligibility to extend the work permit. With such an LMO, there is nothing to suggest that the work permit would otherwise be ineligible for extension. Your lawyer likely has more details of your case and would be better able to advise you.
