According to CIC, to renew PGWP beyond initial one or two years PGWP, it reads:
"When you apply for a work permit under the post-graduation work program, your employer does not have to get a labour market opinion from Service Canada. If you want to extend your work permit beyond the one or two-year limit, then your employer will have to apply for a confirmation from Service Canada."
However, I found a contradiction from this college website, mun.ca/isa/employment/postgradwp.php
(look at the very bottom)
"Renewing your Post Grad Work Permit
- New directive from HRSDC
According to HRSDC (the gov't agency that provides SIN's and labour market opinions), students that become employed under the post-grad program and whose employers wish to keep them on past the post-grad permit expiry, can have their work permits renewed without the need for a Labour Market opinion (ie. that the employer has recruited extensively in Canada and cannot find anyone else). "
I am applying PR and I don't want to seek for LMO before I get PR. Sounds too obvious for which one's correct. However, could it be possible in the future? I mean, I am a IT consultant (contract with IBM) and I like my pay/job/people. But at the same time, I have never done LMO before, and not sure what would hit me after 1.5 yrs later when my PWGP expires if I started to seeking for LMO.
I don't think IBM would take such a burden seeking LMO for me, and I think I can still look for permanent position while I still have some time
(my PGWP expires Jan/23, 2009). Considering the longevity of my PGWP, I wonder if the latter announcement (w/o LMO) could be implemented or already in effect by the time when my PGWP expires.
Any advice appreciated!
