Hi there,

I moved to Vancouver 2 weeks ago on a working holiday visa. At immigration i was given a 1 year open work permit. Since then i have received a job offer from an IT company (I am a software developer). I have verified that i do qualify for the IT exception which means i do not need a labour market opinion for a work permit.

My wife arrived 1 week ago on a 6 month visitor visa. She would like to apply for a work permit as my spouse.

My question is: do i need to reapply for a company specific work permit with my job offer and at the same time apply for an open work permit for my wife?

Or should i just apply for a permit for my wife, given that i already have an open permit in my passport?

It is possible to apply for the work permit by re-entering Canada at a port of entry?

Any help would be much appreciated.
